Community Activities

In addition to raising funds to donate to worthwhile causes, the members of the Riverside Junior Woman's Charity also organize many community service projects such as the ones listed below.

Breakfast with Santa
, a RJWC community service event, was a wonderful event with over 100 children attending. Special thanks go to Harlem Expresso for the delicious treats, Chicago Micro for donating the photo paper and ink, and all our fabulous volunteers, including Girl Scout Troops #4590 and #2774 and the boys from Cub Scout Packs #24 and #92. 

Charity of the Month

Each month a local charity is selected for collection of items to support that deserving group.  Recent recipients include:
The Ray Vanco Children's Foundation, Bottomless Closet, and Riverside Food Pantry.

RJWC Scholarship-Outstanding Community Services Recognition Award

Each year, the Riverside Junior Woman's Charity will recognize a female graduating senior who is a Riverside resident, or a Cook County resident if recommended by an active, associate, or honorary member of the RJWC.  Candidates need to have demonstrated an outstanding level of community service activity throughout her high school career Hours of service to the school, through school organizations and school-sponsored activities, and/or hours of service given in the community through religious, fraternal, and civic organizations will all be considered in the determination of the recipient of the award.

  Book Rack   


Visit the bookracks at the Riverside Metra Station. Bring a book, borrow a book.  Donations of used book are accepted anytime for readers to enjoy and return. The book rack is always in need of more books and recent magazines. Contact us here for more information.


Senior Outreach

Through three activities, the RJWC membership seeks to help, support and provide a little extra love to the seniors living in our area. Activities include:

  • Leftover Love provides meals to seniors in need.
  • A liaison relationship is being developed to assist the local Golden Agers.
  • We share our time with residents of local nursing and retirement homes (i.e. game day, holiday caroling, etc).
