RJWC Scholarship - Outstanding Community Service Recognition Award

The Riverside Junior Woman’s Charity will recognize a female graduating senior who is either a Riverside resident or a Cook County resident recommended by an active, associate or honorary member of the RJWC and has demonstrated during their high school career an outstanding level of community service activity.   Hours of service to the school, through school organizations and school-sponsored activities, and/or hours of service given in the community through religious, fraternal, and civic organizations will all be considered in the determination of the recipient of the award.

 Qualifications

  1. The recipient will be a graduating member of the senior class, in good standing, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale) and applying to an accredited college program. 

2.      The recipient must be a female and either a) a Riverside resident, or b) a Cook County resident recommended by an active, associate or honorary member of the RJWC.

  1. The scholarship must be used towards tuition during the following year of student’s graduation (academic year of 2008-2009).

4.      The recipient will have demonstrated an outstanding and exceptional amount of community service through school service projects and/or community-based service projects and organizations.

5.      The recipient will have demonstrated leadership qualities by serving in a leadership or coordinating capacity for one or more of the community service projects they engaged in.

6.      In general, the RJWC prefers to recognize a student who has consistently given time to school service and community service projects throughout their high school years over a student who has given a large number of hours to a single service project or event.

Application Process

1.      Complete the attached application form.

2.        Have an adult complete the attached referral form and return to you in a sealed envelope. Your reference should be some one who has overseen or been involved with your volunteer efforts and is a non-relative.  Mail the sealed envelope directly to the Riverside Junior Woman’s Charity.

3.      Return your application to the RJWC post marked no later than March 29th, 2008.

4.      This application has been sent to several local high schools.  A copy of the application can also be obtained from the Junior’s website: www.riversidejuniors.org

5.      If necessary, you might be asked to meet for an interview with the RJWC Scholarship committee.

6.      Applicants will be notified approximately the week of April 28th, 2008.

7.      A check for $1500 will be sent directly to the recipient’s chosen college or institution.
